A simple conversation grew into a greenhouse construction project for the Rotary Club of Juneau, Alaska, USA. During a one-day event at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau that helps inmates prepare for life outside of prison, an inmate mentioned to Rotarian Sharon Gaiptman that he hadn’t seen anything growing on the grounds in his seven years there. That sowed the seed: Gaiptman mobilized her fellow Rotarians to build a greenhouse at the facility. “It’ll be a combination of the inmates being able to work here, gain skill in gardening, and then be able to use the produce that they grow here," said Rotarian Wayne Jensen, an architect who is helping with the greenhouse, the club’s major project for this year.
